Originally built for the Japanese market, the car was imported to California in 2004 and professionally federalized by noted Bay Area Mercedes-Benz specialist and Registered Importer Barry Taylor Enterprises of Richmond, California. The federally mandated importation label remains affixed to the car and identifies it by VIN, documenting its conversion to applicable U.S. safety standards.

This Japanese-market Mercedes was imported to the U.S. in 2004. Available records suggest approximately 68,000 kilometers (42,000 miles) were accumulated before its instrument conversion, with approximately 9,435 miles since, suggesting roughly 52,000 lifetime miles. Two inconsistent CARFAX readings from 2004 and 2007 appear to be reporting errors.

The car was registered in Hawaii for approximately three years while the owner's husband's work took the family there, before returning to California. The replacement odometer has otherwise progressed consistently for more than 15 years. Total mileage cannot be certified, so the car is represented as TMU (Total Mileage Unknown).

The 2.3-liter inline six-cylinder engine starts, runs and idles smoothly with plenty of power. The Arctic White finish has a deep shine and appears largely original, with a straight body and good panel fit. The period AMG-style spoilers and side skirts show minor age and wear but present well, while the glass, trim, lighting and emblems remain attractive. Exterior features include a power sunroof, Japanese-market side markers, headlight wipers, fog lights, tinted glass and the original Japanese license plate.

The 17-inch AMG Monoblock wheels wear newer Dunlop tires up front and older Sumitomos at the rear with good tread but due for eventual replacement due to age. Overall, the Arctic White finish, AMG bodywork, Monoblocks and lowered stance give this 300CE a particularly sharp, purposeful appearance.

The deep blue leather interior is comfortable and welcoming and remains in very nice condition throughout, showing only minor age-appropriate wear. The blue carpeting, headliner, dashboard, door panels and trim present nicely, while the rich wood accents give the cabin the unmistakable quality and character of a classic Mercedes-Benz coupe. The leather seating remains supple and attractive, with only light creasing and surface wear visible on the front seats.

The cabin is well equipped with heated power front seats, power windows and mirrors, automatic climate control with cold A/C, cruise control, power sunroof and rear defroster. Individually contoured rear seats include a folding armrest, while an AMG steering wheel adds a distinctive period touch. An aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo is fitted, and the original Mercedes-Benz owner's manual remains in the glovebox.
