Very Nice 1968 Mercury Cougar for Sale in Rare Black Cherry

Nice, mostly original 1968 Mercury Cougar for sale. This California car has just 85,400 miles and came equipped with factory air conditioning and factory finished in rare Black Cherry with Dark Red Crinkle & Dark Red Rhino Pattern interior. It was built in December with an Oakland, California DSO #53. It has lived in the Northern California area since new.

The outside looks nice. It has one repaint of its original Black Cherry Red that has a deep shine and shows nicely. There is no sign of rust anywhere on the car or underneath. It is solid all around. The trim & glass look mostly original as does the top and still present well. The original issue California black plates are in good shape.

The headlamp doors go up and down with ease. The sequential blinker system is not working properly and my mechanic suggests that a new Sequential Turn Signal kit (about $250) will solve this issue. Overall it has an attractive exterior that still shows nicely after 52 years.

The Dark Red Crinkle & Dark Red Rhino Pattern interior is super clean with nice door panels and center console with working door & light. It appears that it used to have an aftermarket stereo system by the 6x9 speakers in the rear shelf that is no longer in the car.

The Philco AM radio is not turning on. I suspect it was disconnected when the stereo was in the car from the previous owner. The steering wheel is in nice shape and the horn works. All of the gauges are in working order except the clock.

The heating system and fan work well, the air conditioning compressor turns on but it does not blow cold air. Overall it's a very comfortable car. The top of the dash cap is a bit discolored but could easily be corrected with dye. Otherwise, it's very nice.

The original 289 cubic inch motor starts and runs well. It has a newer battery and the carburetor was just rebuilt. The C4 transmission shifts nicely through all of the gears. Some brake work was just completed and the stopping is excellent.

The suspension feels fine and overall it is a nice driving car. The older set of tires have plenty of tread but should be replaced due to age. Since everyone seems to have their own preference of tire type we'll leave this to its new owner.

This is a nice opportunity to own a mostly original, California Cougar with low mileage and a short owners list. For questions or inquiries including shipping and financing options, call Donn. Thanks for checking it out.
