This 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop Coupe is a beautifully restored California car, built on March 14, 1965, at the San Jose plant. Delivered new in Rangoon Red exterior with a matching red vinyl interior and red trim, this Mustang underwent a professional nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, believed to be completed by Gary Scott Restorations around 2012-2013.
It remains true to its original specifications, as confirmed by the data tag. The car has a clean California title, and shows 41,690 miles, with an estimated 5,000–8,000 miles driven since restoration based on 2013 tire date codes and tread remaining.
Powering this Mustang is a rebuilt 200ci inline 6-cylinder engine, producing 120 horsepower. It starts easily, runs smoothly without smoke, and offers economical performance with a healthy sound. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts crisply through the gears, complemented by tight and responsive suspension, steering, and braking, making for an enjoyable and relaxed driving experience. The conventional axle with a 3.00:1 ratio ensures smooth cruising.
The exterior, finished in its original Rangoon Red, shines brightly with a deep, glossy finish. The body is straight, with nicely aligned panels, and the chrome, trim, glass, and rubber components appear to have been restored or replaced, showing minimal wear. It rides on stock steel wheels with Ford hubcaps, fitted with older P195/75R14 Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II tires that retain 85–95% tread but should be replaced due to age.
The interior is immaculate, fully restored to factory specifications with red vinyl upholstery and matching red trim. The seats, rugs, door panels, headliner, dash, gauges, and switches are all present in excellent condition, reflecting the quality of the restoration. A Retrosound stereo system with auxiliary hookups provides modern connectivity, and the ice-cold air conditioning ensures comfort on long drives. All gauges and switches function as intended, enhancing the driving experience.
