Black/Red, Ready to Enjoy

1961 Triumph TR3A Roadster for Sale

1961 Triumph TR3A Roadster for Sale

Nice little 1961 Triumph TR3A for sale. This classic British roadster was acquired from the well-known Santa Cruz British car specialist shop, Emile's Sports Car Performance, in 2022. Finished in black over a red interior, the car is powered by the 1991cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and dual SU carburetors, delivering the lively and engaging driving experience these cars are known for.

The car has traveled only about 1,800 miles during its most recent four-year ownership, during which it received servicing aimed at improving drivability and reliability. It presents as a charming TR3A ready to be enjoyed on the road. The sale includes repair orders from prior ownership along with a clear California title.

The exterior was repainted at some point in the past and is finished in black with a deep shine and plenty of gloss. The body panels show nice fitment, and the brightwork presents well with a mix of refinished and original trim and chrome. The car sits on steel wheels fitted with proper hubcaps and a nice set of Coker Classic Whitewall 165R15 radial tires with 90%+ tread remaining.

The convertible top frame is present, though the car does not currently have a canvas top installed, and replacements are readily available. An older tonneau cover is included and is suitable for covering the folded top frame when driving with the top down, though the front snaps are not positioned correctly for use as a full tonneau. Overall, the exterior presents nicely and shows well as a driver-quality example of the iconic TR3A roadster.

The interior is comfortable and presents very well. The red seating with white piping complements the black exterior nicely and gives the cockpit a classic British sports car look. The seats and interior panels are in very good condition, as is the carpeting, and the original Jaeger gauges remain in place, framed by the charming original TR3 steering wheel. There is a Becker Europa AM/FM radio installed in the glovebox.

The boot is tidy with the original pad, and the tire carrier area is solid and includes a spare tire. Overall, the interior offers an inviting and period-correct environment for enjoying the open-air driving experience these cars are known for.

The 1991cc inline-four (TS77194E) starts easily and runs well. The gearbox shifts smoothly, and the braking and suspension feel tight and responsive. Over the past couple thousand miles, the car has received servicing aimed at improving drivability and reliability, including a general mechanical inspection, cooling system service with a water pump replacement, steering work with new tie rod ends and an alignment, carburetor cleaning and adjustment, an ignition tune-up, and a valve adjustment. This work represents the kind of sorting typical for a classic British sports car and has helped keep the car running and driving properly.

This is a nice, driver-quality TR3 that has been thoughtfully serviced and maintained and is ready to enjoy. Be sure to check out all 300+ photos and the video below.
