1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible for Sale

Restored 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible for Sale

This exceptional 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible is offered for sale following an exhaustive frame-off restoration by Jim Lowrey and Lowrey’s Auto Restoration, one of the country’s most respected restoration shops. Family owned and operated for more than 40 years, Lowrey’s has produced nationally acclaimed, award-winning automobiles shown from Pebble Beach to Hershey, including a Pebble Beach award-winning Dual-Ghia, while historic hot rods restored by the shop have also appeared at Pebble Beach.

Lowrey’s work has been featured extensively in the automotive press as well as Ken Gross’s Art of the Hot Rod. That pedigree is immediately apparent in this Bel Air, which was restored to a standard well beyond Chevrolet’s original production-line finish and today presents essentially better than new. Finished in its factory-correct Regal Turquoise and India Ivory (Paint 612S) over a Turquoise and Ivory interior (Trim 537) with a white convertible top, the odometer was reset to zero upon completion of the restoration and now shows just 577 miles since completion. Extensive photographs document the restoration, and the car is accompanied by a clear California title.

The 265ci Chevrolet V8 starts readily and runs and idles smoothly with plenty of power. It is equipped with a Carter WCFB four-barrel carburetor, period-style oil-bath air cleaner, glass-bowl fuel filter, generator and carefully restored factory-style components throughout. The engine bears an F55F stamping corresponding to a Flint-built 1955 265 V8 for Powerglide application and is paired with the two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, which shifts smoothly and effortlessly through the gears. The braking, steering and suspension systems were comprehensively restored along with the remainder of the chassis and feel tight and responsive, making this remarkably fresh Bel Air every bit as enjoyable to drive as it is impressive to inspect.

The Regal Turquoise and India Ivory finish is simply outstanding, with a deep, glass-like shine and exceptional bodywork, panel fit and detailing throughout. The body was removed from the chassis during restoration, allowing the same extraordinary level of attention to extend underneath the car, where the beautifully finished body-color floors, convertible-specific X-braced frame, suspension, driveline, lines, hardware and associated components demonstrate just how comprehensive the restoration truly was.

The glass, chrome, stainless trim, grille, bumpers, lighting and Bel Air emblems present beautifully. Factory-style steel wheels with full Bel Air wheel covers and wide-whitewall tires complete the unmistakable appearance of one of Chevrolet’s most celebrated designs. This is a car that rewards close inspection; the deeper you look, the more impressive the workmanship becomes.

Inside, the Turquoise and Ivory interior is comfortable, inviting and beautifully finished throughout. The two-tone upholstery, matching door panels, carpeting and painted surfaces complement the exterior perfectly, while the iconic 1955 Chevrolet dashboard, instrumentation, bright trim, steering wheel, controls and hardware display the same painstaking attention to detail evident throughout the rest of the car. Nothing appears casually refinished or simply made presentable—the interior has the cohesive, crisp appearance of a properly executed high-level restoration. With only 577 miles accumulated since completion, it remains remarkably fresh throughout.

This is a unique opportunity to acquire not simply another restored 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, but an example completed by a restoration shop whose work has earned national recognition and appeared on the lawn at Pebble Beach. Jim Lowrey and his team have spent decades establishing a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, period-correct presentation, precision metalwork and outstanding fit and finish, and this Bel Air demonstrates why.

From its glass-like exterior finish and beautifully appointed interior to an engine compartment and undercarriage restored with the same care as the visible surfaces, this is a car whose quality extends far beyond what most restorations reveal at first glance. With its factory V8 configuration, correct-period 265ci V8 and Powerglide drivetrain, factory-correct Regal Turquoise and India Ivory color combination, extensive restoration documentation and just 577 miles since completion, it represents the increasingly rare opportunity to purchase a better-than-new 1955 Bel Air Convertible restored without compromise.
