This Fine Mercedes-Benz 380SL has Sold

We have a very original well cared for 1983 Mercedes 380SL Roadster for sale. This Mercedes came from one of my business partners, who has a habit of buying cool cars he comes across in Marin County. Cars are piling up in his hanger and I have been asked to start selling them.

I have spent several hours with the car and have found the following:

History: This 380SL has lived its life in Northern California. According to the former owner, it was owned by a former Mercedes master mechanic for about 12 years. As such it feels very strong, straight, and unusually well-cared-for and original.

Mechanicals: This 380SL runs very strongly, smoothly, and quietly. The transmission shifts silently and without any jerking. Suspension is tight and the shocks are very strong – the ride is unusually well damped and controlled. It accelerates smoothly and swiftly with just a hint of V-8 growl.

All gauges work. Heater works also. A/C does not – has not been used in years in the California climate. Steering is tight and the car tracks straight as a die, feeling very calm and competent at highway speeds.

Exterior: This Mercedes wears a beautiful re-paint and original brightwork. There is no evidence of damage. The metallic grey-blue – deeper and richer than the more common Mercedes light metallic blue – is beautiful and is one of the things that drew my partner to the car in the first place. The soft top looks to have been rarely used. The hard top is in flawless condition as well.

Interior: The 380SL’s interior is in excellent condition. Again, it’s all original. The leather is supple and the dash is excellent. There is one very small dash crack, and there is one small tear in the driver’s seat. Overall a lovely car to sit in and drive.

The frame and underside are rock solid as befits a California car. There is no rust on the car anywhere. The car recently passed the California smog inspection.

This is a great Mercedes if you’re on a budget and want a dependable, fun & fast daily convertible, with a lot of class. It’s a lot of car for a great price.
