Nice Original 1964 Porsche 356C Karmann Coupe for Sale

Very original 1964 Porsche 356c 1600c Karmann Coupe for sale. This California car was built August 17th, 1964, finished in Light Ivory/6404 and a Black Leatherette interior with Dunlop B7 tires, and sold new at Veale Motors in Santa Rosa on October 13, 1964.

A few months later, the original owner traded it to the originating dealer, who sold it to its second and current owner on March 9, 1965, when less than six months old. This special vintage Porsche is equipped with its original Blaupunkt radio, ventilated chrome wheels, retractable antenna, chrome rear luggage rack, seatbelts, dual headrests, body-color bumpers with chrome over-riders, and a twin-grille engine cover and has its original books and manuals, tool kit, jack, and spare.

It still wears most of its original paint, has an accident-free body, original interior along with its original engine and drivetrain. It has been used lightly with only 109k original miles, averaging about 1,800 miles per year over its 58+ year lifespan. It includes the current POC shown below.

The 1.6 L Type 616/15 1600 motor runs well with plenty of power, and it starts easily and runs smoothly, shifting through the gears effortlessly. The car was in storage for the last five years and brought in for service 70 miles ago in June of 2021 and underwent a $5,300 service that included fluids, battery, brake work, points, new Vredestein tires, etc. See repair order here.

The exterior presents well and is mostly original. The owner states that he had the trunk lid open early in his ownership, and his friend unknowingly pushed it down without lifting it first and subsequently damaged the hood. It was replaced and painted Light Ivory to match, which required some blending.

Many years ago, the rear bumper was damaged and replaced. Otherwise, the main body we are told (and appears) to be accident-free. The inspection revealed corrosion and a rust hole under the battery from acid leakage during its recent service. Otherwise, the body is rust-free throughout, along with beautiful, all original floors.

Its 58-year-old original interior is in remarkable overall condition. During the '70s, when it was popular to try and make your 356 look a bit more 911-ish, the owner covered the original dash in vinyl. He states that nothing was modified, making returning the dash to its original state relatively simple.

Otherwise, the basketweave rugs, seat upholstery, door cards, and headliner look good, as do the gauges and steering wheel. I was tempted to remove the steering wheel cover, but it has been protecting it since at least the '70s and decided to let its next owner decide what to do moving forward.

This is a rare opportunity to own a well-preserved 356C, a California, black-plate Porsche that has been with the same caring owner for nearly 57 years. Be sure to check out all 315 photos and the video below.
